  33.      Buspirone should be stored at room temperature in a tightly closed
  34. container.  Avoid exposure to high temperatures (greater than 86 degrees_F).

  36. USES
  37.  
  38.      Buspirone is prescribed as a treatment for the symptoms of anxiety.  It
  39. is not yet understood exactly how this medication works.  Buspirone has been
  40. shown to be effective in relieving symptoms of anxiety, but it is important
  41. that you try to identify and remove the cause of the anxiety as well.

  43. TREATMENT
  44.  
  45.      Buspirone should be taken exactly as directed by your doctor.  It can be
  46. taken with food or a full glass of water if stomach upset occurs.
  47.      If you are taking this drug regularly and miss a dose, take the missed
  48. dose immediately if you remember within an hour.  If more time has passed,
  49. however, skip the dose you missed and wait for the next scheduled dose.  Do
  50. not double the dose.

  52. SIDE EFFECTS
  53.  
  54.      Minor.
  55.  
  56.      Diarrhea, dizziness, excitement, fatigue, headache, lightheadedness,
  57. nasal congestion, nausea, nervousness, sleeping problems, sweating, or
  58. weakness.  These side effects should disappear as your body adjusts to this
  59. medication.
  60.      If you feel dizzy or light-headed, sit or lie down for a while; get up
  61. slowly from a sitting or reclining position, and be careful on stairs.

  63.      Major.
  64.  
  65.      Tell your doctor about any side effects that are persistent or
  66. particularly bothersome.  IT IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about
  67. chest pain, confusion, feelings of anger, incoordination, muscle pain,
  68. numbness, rash, ringing in the ears, sore throat, tingling in your fingers or
  69. toes, or tremors.

  71. INTERACTIONS
  72.  
  73.      Although extensive studies have not yet been completed, buspirone may
  74. interact with several other medications.
  75.      To prevent oversedation, this drug should not be taken with alcohol or
  76. other central nervous system depressants (such as antihistamines,
  77. barbiturates, muscle relaxants, pain medicines, narcotics, medicines for
  78. seizures, phenothiazine tranquilizers, and antidepressants).
  79.      Before starting buspirone, BE SURE TO TELL YOUR DOCTOR about any
  80. medications you are currently taking, especially any of those listed above.

  82. WARNINGS

  84.      * Before starting buspirone, be sure to tell your doctor about any
  85. unusual or allergic reactions you have had to any medications, especially to
  86. buspirone.
  87.      * Be sure to tell your doctor if you now have or if you have ever had
  88. kidney disease, liver disease, or any type of psychiatric disorder.
  89.      * Until you experience how this medication affects you, do not drive a
  90. car or operate potentially dangerous machinery.
  91.      * Be sure to tell your doctor if you are pregnant.  Although buspirone
  92. does appear to be safe in animals, complete studies in pregnant women have not
  93. been conducted.  Also, be sure to tell your doctor if you are breast-feeding
  94. an infant.  Small amounts of buspirone have been shown to pass into the milk
  95. of animals.
